What is CommunityXO?
CommunityXO is a global, multi-community platform that enables organisations of any type — religious groups, educational institutions, professional networks, NGOs, political movements, hobby clubs, and more — to build, manage, and monetise their communities.
Members can discover and join multiple communities with a single account, participate in events, chat, access marketplaces, donate, and much more — all from one app.
Is CommunityXO free to use?
Yes! Creating an account and joining public communities is completely free. Community Owners choose whether to charge membership fees. CommunityXO offers free and paid tiers for community management features.
What platforms is CommunityXO available on?
CommunityXO will be available as a native mobile app on iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play Store), plus a fully responsive web app at communityxo.com. All platforms share the same features and real-time syncing.
What languages does CommunityXO support?
CommunityXO supports 20+ languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Arabic, and more. Community Owners can set a default language for their community.
How is CommunityXO different from WhatsApp groups or Facebook groups?
Unlike messaging apps or social media groups, CommunityXO is purpose-built for community management:
- Multi-community: Join as many communities as you want with one account.
- Customisable: Each community can have custom terminology, branding, roles, and workflows.
- Built-in commerce: Marketplace, donations, subscriptions, and event ticketing are native features.
- Geofencing: Target posts and notifications to specific geographic areas.
- Privacy first: Your data stays separated per community, and admins only see what you share.

Communities
How do I create a community?
Go to "My Communities" → "Create Community". You'll choose a community type, set a name, description, privacy level, and configure features like marketplace, donations, and events. Your community is live in minutes.
Can I manage multiple communities?
Absolutely. You can own and manage multiple communities, and you can also be a member (or admin) of communities owned by others. There's no limit on how many communities you can belong to.
What's the difference between public, private, and invite-only communities?
Public: Anyone can find and join instantly via the Marketplace. Private: Visible in search, but membership requires admin approval. Invite-only: Not listed publicly; members need an invite code or link to join.
Can I customise my community's appearance and terminology?
Yes. Community Owners can set custom branding (logos, colours, banners), rename features (e.g., "Members" → "Devotees", "Posts" → "Announcements"), add custom profile fields, and define role-based permissions. Enterprise white-label clients can remove all CommunityXO branding entirely.
What are geofenced posts?
Geofenced posts allow community admins to target content and notifications to members within a specific geographic area. You can draw a boundary on a map or set a radius around a location. Only members in that area receive push notifications, though all members can view the post.
Marketplace & Commerce
How does the marketplace work?
Each community can enable its own marketplace where members buy and sell items. Sellers list products with photos, descriptions, and prices. Buyers can browse, filter, and purchase securely within the app. There's also a cross-community global marketplace for broader reach.
What are the commission rates?
CommunityXO charges a 15% commission on marketplace transactions, 2% on donations, and 2% on subscription payments collected through the platform. Community Owners receive the remaining amount after payment processing fees.
What payment methods are supported?
In India: UPI, credit/debit cards, net banking, and wallets via Razorpay. Internationally: credit/debit cards and Apple Pay/Google Pay via Stripe. More payment methods will be added based on regional demand.
Donations
How can my community accept donations?
Enable the donations feature in your community settings. You can set up one-time or recurring donation options, create specific campaigns with goals and progress bars, and provide full transparency through donor reports.
Are donations tax-deductible?
CommunityXO is a technology platform that facilitates donation collection. Tax deductibility depends on the receiving organisation's legal status and local tax laws. Donors should consult their tax advisor and the community's own policies.
Privacy & Security
How is my data protected?
All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). We follow industry-standard security practices, conduct regular security audits, and comply with GDPR, India's DPDPA, and other applicable data protection laws. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Can I control what data communities see about me?
Yes. You control your profile visibility per community. Communities can only see the information you choose to share. Platform-level data (like your email or phone) is never directly exposed to community admins.
How do I delete my account?
You can permanently delete your account from "Settings" → "Account" → "Delete Account" in the app, or follow our step-by-step guide on the Account Deletion page. All your data will be permanently erased within 30 days.
Technical
Does CommunityXO work offline?
CommunityXO requires an internet connection for most features (real-time messaging, marketplace, etc.). However, the app caches recently viewed content so you can browse it offline. New content syncs automatically when you reconnect.
How do app updates work?
CommunityXO uses Shorebird for instant over-the-air updates. Most updates are delivered seamlessly in the background without requiring app store downloads. Major platform updates will be published through the App Store and Play Store.
Can I self-host CommunityXO?
Enterprise white-label clients have the option to deploy on self-hosted Supabase infrastructure. This provides complete control over data residency and compliance. Contact us at madhu@communityxo.com for enterprise enquiries.
